Mrs. Amber Childress

Mrs. Childress is in her first year at Kitty Hawk as an assistant band director! She teaches the symphonic band, the jazz band, beginning trombone, beginning percussion, beginning trumpet and beginning horn. 

Before coming to Kitty Hawk, Amber Childress was an assistant band director at Alamo Heights ISD for nine years where she taught the high school symphonic band and 6th through 12th grade percussion.

Mrs. Childress holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Summa Cum Laude, from Texas State University with an all-level teaching certification. During her tenure at Texas State, Mrs. Childress was a member of the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Winds, Texas State Symphony Orchestra, Bobcat Marching Band, Percussion Ensemble, Steel Pan Ensemble, Ceremonial Brass, and the Texas State Winter Drumline. As a member of the Wind Symphony she had the privilege of performing at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio and the College Band Directors National Association Conference in Seattle. Mrs. Childress is originally from Seguin, Texas. She is a member of Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Percussive Arts Society, and Kappa Kappa Psi: National Honorary Fraternity for College Bands. 

Mrs. Childress’ husband Michael is a band director at Smithson Valley High School. They live in San Antonio with their one year old son Nolan and their dog Cora.
