Mrs. Sonja Alcorta, Orchestra and Mariachi
Mrs. Alcorta began playing the violin in 2nd grade. An Indiana native, she later studied at Indiana State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education in 1997. After earning K-12 Music certification, she moved to McAllen, Texas, and began teaching Middle and High School strings. In 2006, she relocated to San Antonio, and began teaching Middle School and 5th grade strings in Northside ISD, before arriving at Kitty Hawk in 2018.
Mrs. Alcorta has led numerous Orchestras to Sweepstakes ratings at UIL Concert/Sight-reading, and has taught even more numerous All-Region Orchestra members in her career. In 2020, Mrs. Alcorta began the 1st Mariachi class at Kitty Hawk, Mariachi Los Altos. She plans to continue the tradition of excellence with both the Orchestra and Mariachi groups!
