Degrees and Certifications:

BA History and Anthropology History 8-12 Certification SPED EC-12 Certification MA Cultural Anthropology

Mrs. Salazar-Benjamin

Hello, I'm so excited to be joining the Kitty Hawk family this year! I have a Bachelors Degree in History and Anthropology from Texas State University and while I was working on my undergraduate degrees, I also earned my teaching certificate in History 8-12. After earning my Bachelor's Degree in 2006, I decided to pursue my MA in Cultural Anthropology, first at UTSA, and then return to Texas State University, where I received my MA in Cultural Anthropology in 2009.

I've been an educator for over 14 years. The first four years of my teaching career began at Texas State University, where I served as a Lecturer in the Department of Anthropology. After working at Texas State, I moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, where I taught at the elementary, middle school and high school levels for the next 10 years! While there, I served as an ELL teacher and a SPED Teacher, and earned my certification in SPED EC-12. Having been born and raised in Texas, I felt that it was time to come back home, and I am so excited to be teaching here at Kitty Hawk Middle School. I share the philosophy of education that all children are unique and must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. It is my goal to create this type of atmosphere where students can meet their full potential. I aim to provide a safe environment where students are invited to share their ideas and take risks while being respectful of differences of opinions amongst each other.

In my personal life, I am a wife and mother of two wonderful children. I enjoy spending as much time with my family as possible and I have a thirst to continue my own learning in my personal time. I love to read and watch shows that teach me more about all the things that I'm curious about. Education is the key to a better understanding of people, places and things and we should continue to pursue education throughout our lives. I'm so excited to see what this year brings and can't wait to see all the things that my students will learn and how they will grow throughout this school year.
