Ms. Jenelva Carter

The 2023-2024 school year marks Ms. Carter's eleventh year at Wagner high school. She serves as the Lead Director for the theatre department. She received her BA in Theater Arts from the University of the Incarnate Word.

Past directing credits include: The Wiz, Anatomy of Gray, Raisin in the Sun, Frankenstein, Wednesdays, Tartuffe, Fences, Spoon River Anthology, Seussical the Musical, Antigone, The Good Counselor, Rise and Shine, A Christmas Carol, The Dalesha Report, After, Dearly Departed, Flies in the Ice, and A Bright New Boise. Prior to Wagner, Ms. Carter taught theater at George Gervin Academy.

Over the years she has worked on a diverse range of theatrical productions including: The Magic Act - Anabelle, Midsummer Night’s Dream - Hippolyta, The Scene - Kate, Lysistrata - Lampito, In the Blood - Beauty, Aida - Nehebka, Steel Magnolias -Annelle, The Lion and the Jewel - Sidi, Dear Mom - Elizabeth, Blues for an Alabama Sky - Delia, Fabulation - Undine and Raisin in the Sun - Beneatha serving as Actress.

Ms. Carter's play, Lorraine's Stranger, (based on the life of Lorraine Hansberry) was featured in the Renaissance Guild's One Act Volume Three festival and her adaptation of Wole Soyinka's The Lion and the Jewel was featured in South Africa to San Antonio's cultural festival. She has also worked at the Carver Cultural Community center as Theater Camp Director, the Ella Austin Community Center as a Theater Camp instructor and served on the Renaissance Guild’s and Alamo Theater Arts Council's Board of Directors.
