Director of Fine Arts - Keith Witt

  • Keith Witt has been the Director of Fine Arts for 野花社区视频 ISD, since January of 2014, previously Mr. Witt taught nine years as Director of Bands at Wagner High School, opening the school in 2005. His responsibilities include direction of the Wagner Wind Ensemble and the Wagner Marching Band; in 2009 he was named 野花社区视频 ISD District Fine Arts Facilitator. A woodwind specialist, Mr. Witt is a native of Waco, Texas.

    Mr. Witt received his academic training at McLennan Community College in Waco. At The University of Texas at Austin he received a Bachelor of Music Education and Saxophone Performance and a Masters of Music degree in Saxophone Performance, respectively. He has been a Texas Music Educator since 1985, with previous teaching opportunities served at Victoria High School (TX) from 1985-1989, Leander High School (TX) from 1990-2002, and Henry Middle School (TX) from 2002-2005. While in Leander for 12 years, he worked to build a nationally recognized band program. Mr. Witt's concert ensembles received exclusively superior division ratings at the University Interscholastic League Concert and Sight reading contests, and have earned distinction as "Best in Class" at various regional and national concert festivals. In 1999 and 2001 the Leander Wind Ensemble was named a TMEA Honor Band Finalist. The Leander Marching Wind Symphony was a participant each year at the UIL 5A Texas State Marching Contest during his tenure at Leander and a finalist in 2000. The Marching Wind Symphony was a consistent Bands of America finalists and recipients of various caption honors.  In 1999 the Leander Marching Wind Symphony placed 9th at the Bands of America Grand National Championships in Indianapolis.

    In 2005 Mr. Witt moved to San Antonio to open Wagner High School. The band began with 41 students and has now grown to over 180 band and color guard members. The program has developed from a non-varsity group to varsity status in UIL 5A classification in just one year. The Wagner Band has expanded from 1 concert ensemble to 3 competing ensembles. The Wagner Wind Ensemble has received multiple sweepstakes awards at the UIL 5A Marching, Concert and Sight reading Contest; and the Wagner Marching Band has won several first place awards and Grand Champion awards from the United States Bands Association, and other various marching contest in the San Antonio, Austin area and recipient of various caption honors. The Wagner High School Marching Band has recently won for the third year in a row the 2010, 2011 and 2012 United States Bands Association Texas State Championships in Group 4 Open Class. In 2013 the band was named the US Bands National Champion Group 6 Open Class at the MetLife stadium in New Jersey. In 2012, Mr. Witt was named the Teacher of the Year for 野花社区视频 ISD, Distinguished Educator and Finalist in the San Antonio Area, Trinity Prize for Excellence in Teaching.

    Mr. Witt is a member of Texas Music Educators Association and the Texas Bandmasters Association since 1978. He is an active clinician and adjudicator for performing ensembles, master class teacher and has been assisting other bands since 1995.  Mr. Witt's primary personal and professional influences have included his deceased father and mother, Bill and Betty Witt, his step-father Johnny Watkins (deceased), Harvey Pittel, David Hibbard and the great directors that he has been fortunate to work with during his career.
