• Structural Steel installation for Segment A (admin) continues for Cibolo Creek Middle School. Electrical and Plumbing work continues in Segment E (cafeteria) and Segment F (Athletics). Exterior sheathing installation continues in Segment E.  Masonry walls work still on going in the building.
• Fencing placement has commenced at Olympia ES, Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ HS, and Wagner HS on District-Wide Perimeter Fencing. City permit for Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ MS scope is approved; construction to begin quickly. Kirby MS, Wagner, & Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ HS fence and gate scope implementation is proceeding as scheduled.
• The scope of JTECH NOC and Warehouse Improvements includes improvements/additions to Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ’s JTECH NOC and Warehouse infrastructure.
• The design phase will take approximately 3 to 4 months.

Previous Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ Work

• For Candlewood ES Phase II Modernization & Improvements, the project includes adding ADA/TAS compliant signage, replacing the sewer lines under the building, minor library expansion, and relocating of the MDF. For the first set of bathrooms, inspection for the sewer lines passed and trenches are backfilled. Rough in for domestic water is ongoing. For the library, inspection for the sewer lines passed and trenches are backfilled, framing work is at 90% completion, and electrical and duct work is ongoing. For the Life Skills area, inspection for the sewer lines passed and trenches are backfilled, domestic water rough in for the sink and refrigerator is ongoing. Estimated Completion: Two-phase substantial completion of August 2024 and August 2025.
• Districtwide Roofing Phase IV includes Coronado Village ES (Main Roof and Gym), Franz ES (Main Roof and Gym), Olympia ES (Gym) and Transportation Building (Main Roof). Coronado Village is about 45% complete and Coronado Village gym is 25% complete. Franz NE wing has begun to tear off and install of new insulation and metal roof. The roof panel former is on site.
• MTR has started their investigations on Converse Elementary School Site & Civil Upgrades.
• Project for Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ PAC Theatrical Equipment Replacement Project includes removal of all existing sound and light systems in the Main Theater, Recital Hall, and Black Box Theater. Project expected to be complete May 31, 2024.
• The asphalt for the track is complete for Wagner HS Track and Field Improvements. Running surface to be installed after three weeks of curing. Turf field installed and the sidewalk around track is 80% complete.
• Band practice is complete except for striping and flume for stormwater from bandstand to grate inlet at tennis courts for Veterans Memorial HS Parking Lot Addition and Stadium Additions. Home bleachers installed.  Visitors building weathered in. Home locker and restrooms interior finished being installed. Poles for end zone nets are installed.

• Steel erections is ongoing in several areas of the building (areas D, E & F) for Cibolo Creek Middle School. Electrical overhead rough-in is ongoing in area F (locker rooms, coaching office) and several retaining walls have been completed.

• Phase II design is nearing completion for District-Wide Perimeter Fencing. Fencing placement has commenced at Olympia ES, Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ HS, and Wagner HS. Waiting on permit for Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ MS scope.  Kirby MS implementation is eminent. 

• District-Wide Gym AC Improvements are under design. Phase 1 design to complete April 2024.
• The design phase will take approximately 3 months on Franz Elementary School Parking Lot Lighting.

Previous Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ Work

• For Candlewood ES Phase II Modernization & Improvements, the project includes adding ADA/TAS compliant signage, replace the sewer lines under the building, minor library expansion, relocating of the MDF. Trenches have been completed and underground sanitary sewer lines are ongoing, inspection to be schedule the week of the April 1st. All the demolition in the library has been completed, metal framing and electrical overhead work is on-going. Trenches for the sanitary sewer system are 80% after that sanitary sewer system will be installed in lifeskills area.
• Coronado Village ES Gym Canopy Addition is in the pre-construction phase, awaiting long lead Avadek system.
• Districtwide Roofing Phase IV scope of work includes the removal of roofing materials down to the metal deck and replacing with new roofing system for each structure. Campuses included are Coronado Village ES (Main Roof and Gym), Franz ES (Main Roof and Gym), Olympia ES (Gym) and Transportation Building (Main Roof). Coronado Village ES is 15% complete. Awaiting metal roofing from manufacturer and delivery of materials.
• Metzger MS Vestibule includes minor demolition, with the installation of a new, secure vestibule for the main entrance. Construction to commence May 2024.
• Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ Middle School Parking Overlay scope of the project includes pavement demolition with a new asphalt overlay, site improvements, lot signage and striping and minor drainage corrections. The design phase will take approximately 3 months.
• Franz Elementary School Parking Overlay scope of the project includes pavement demolition with a new asphalt overlay, site improvements, lot signage, striping and minor drainage corrections. The design phase will take approximately 3 months.
• Converse Elementary School Site & Civil Upgrades is in pre-design phase. Phase 1 scope includes a site survey, an assessment, project scope recommendation and estimated cost analysis. The design phase will take approximately 2 months.
• Renovations are proceeding as planned for Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ PAC Theatrical Equipment Replacement Project. Project includes removal of all existing sound and light systems in the Main Theater, Recital Hall, and Black Box Theater.
• Rubberized pad under turf field installed for Wagner HS Track and Field Improvements. Footings for bleachers being formed.  Base material under both bleachers is in place. The final asphalt layer for the track is scheduled for week of April 1. Grading around field is nearing completion. Sidewalks around the track are being formed. 

• Band practice field is paved and railing is installed on the band tower for Veterans Memorial HS Parking Lot Addition and Stadium Additions. Other work includes visitor’s bleachers installed, visitors building roof trusses installed, home locker roof installed, interior tile installed, home restrooms roof installed, home restrooms tile installed and concrete pad for home bleachers is poured.

• The Board approved the selection of Nunnelly General Contractor at the February 8^th Special Called Meeting for Elementary School #21. The notice of award has been issued and all due diligence has been requested by staff for formal review. Anticipated school opening Summer 2025.
• Constructions continues for Middle School #6.Structural steel erection has begun in the gym area.

• Phase I design is complete for District-Wide Perimeter Fencing. An award for construction services will be submitted to the February 2024 Regular Board Meeting.
• District-Wide Gym AC Improvements are under design. The scope of work includes HVAC improvements District-wide for un-airconditioned gyms.

• Board approval and award is tentatively planned for the January 2024 board meeting for Metzger MS Vestibule.
• Site mobilization is tentatively planned to begin before the end of January to be followed by demolition for Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ PAC Theatrical Equipment Replacement Project.
• Concrete curb installation is 100% complete for Wagner HS Track and Field Improvements. Subsurface asphalt placement to begin mid-January. The project includes the removal of the natural turf football field, track grandstands, press box, and associated site drainage. Work will provide for a new synthetic football turf field, new bleachers, pressbox, a drainage system, and outdoor seating with covered boxes.

• The design team has received the chiller submittals for Hartman ES Chiller, which are currently under review.
• The retaining walls are continuing to be constructed for Middle School #6. Currently, rebar on the vertical surface of the pier in preparation for spray concrete is being installed. Footing for Building D (higher elevation), rebar is being put in place and is ongoing. In Areas F and E, the plumbing has been installed and the foundation concrete has been poured. Rough grading at parent pick-up/parking lot is still ongoing.

Previous Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ Work

• For Veterans Memorial HS Parking Lot and Stadium Additions, project scope includes new parking lots, curbs, fencing, band tower, storm drainage, work at the detention pond, water, and sewer utilities connection. Will also provide new synthetic football turf field, bleachers, field houses and pavement. The structure at the base of the band tower is curing. Behind the base of the tower, 15’-0” of fill materials have been put in place and compacted in preparation for the second level platform to be constructed. At the football field area, a storm drain system is being installed. Permanent power has been installed by CPS Energy.

• For Wortham Oaks ES and Waldon Walk Traffic Signal, the project includes a new traffic signal at the intersection of Wortham Oaks and Waldon Walk. This is in preparation for the new Middle School #6 and its impact on the traffic flow. The project continues in design.
• For Wagner HS Track and Field Improvements, the project includes the removal of natural turf football field, track grandstands, press box and associated site drainage. Work will provide for a new synthetic football turf field, new bleachers, press box, a drainage system and outdoor seating with covered boxes. Chemical injection on the track is underway.

• For Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ PAC Theatrical Equipment Replacement Project, upon receiving a signed contract, we will schedule the pre-construction meeting to begin the work. Project includes the removal of all existing sound and light systems in the Main Theater, Recital Hall, and Black Box Theater.

• Construction continues on Wagner HS Athletic Improvements with chemical injection for the football field complete.

• Design continues with Coronado Village ES Gym Canopy. Soil testing has occurred and the architect has received the report and is continuing with the design.

Proposition B - New School Facilities

• Schematic Design for Elementary School #21 was approved by JISD Board of Trustees in July. Architect is continuing into Design Development.

• Contract Negotiations are ongoing for Hartman ES Chiller Replacement.
• Construction is ongoing on sitework related tasks for Middle School #6, including pier installation at the northern retaining wall, building pad cuts, and selecting fill for the building pad. Rough grading at parent pick-up / parking lot continues and drilling of piers is ongoing.

Previous Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ Update

• Work at Detention Pond is near completion for the Veterans Memorial HS Parking Lot Addition. Work at Retaining Wall continues and major utilities have been extended and are being covered up. The material was brought in to build up the field. Infill of the site is 99% complete.
• Installation complete on Wortham Oaks ES Utility Connection to Modular Buildings. Utility connections are complete and currently waiting for Bexar County Fire Inspections.
• Design ongoing for Wortham Oaks ES Traffic Signal. This project is for the traffic signal at Waldon Walk and Wortham Oaks Blvd.
• Demolition complete on Wagner HS Athletic Improvements. Chemical injection for football field still ongoing. The track is pending chemical injection.
• Request for Competitive Sealed Proposal (RFCSP) was on issued July 21, 2023 for Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ PAC Theater Equipment. Contractor Selection and staff recommendation will be presented to the Board of Trustees at September Board Meeting.
• Design continues for Coronado Village ES Gym Canopy.
• Construction documents are currently 90% complete for Candlewood ES Phase II. Bid documents are due in August 2023. Contractor Selection and staff recommendation will be presented to the Board of Trustees in September Board Meeting.
• Construction on Candlewood ES Phase I Chiller Replacement is complete and chilled water supply lines tie-in will be completed by August 14, 2023. Remainder of project will complete once new chiller is received.

Proposition B - New School Facilities

• Construction has begun on Middle School #6, with completion scheduled to be completed in July 2025. The general contractor has cleared the site and grading stage has begun.
• Staff recommendation was presented to the JISD Board of Trustees for approval during the May Board Meeting for the Hartman ES Chiller Replacement.

Previous Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ Update

• All projects from Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ 2013 have been completed. Balance of Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ Funds to be transferred to 2016 Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ.

• Candlewood Phase 1 (Chiller Replacement): The general contractor has begun on-site mobilization. (This includes setup of temporary offices and amenities.) The tentative completion of the project set for Fall of 2024.

• Projects from the 2016 and 2017 Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ that have started or are in progress include:
  • Coronado Village ES Gym Canopy
  • Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ PAC Theater Equipment Update
  • Wagner HS Athletic Improvements
  • Veterans Memorial High School Parking Lot Addition.

Proposition A

• The Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ received the RFCSP bids from general contractors for the new Chiller Replacement. At this time, the staff recommendation will be presented to the JISD Board of Trustees for approval during the May Board Meeting.

Proposition B - New School Facilities

• For Middle School #6, a groundbreaking occurred on May 3, 2023. Construction will begin mid-may, with completion scheduled to be completed in July 2025.
• For Elementary School #21, the Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ began the process of designing the new elementary school by hosting a “design charrette”. This meeting identified the general spaces, square footage, and adjacencies. In attendance were Technology, Maintenance, Safety and Security, Child Nutrition, Curriculum and Instruction, and Facilities Planning, all ensuring that the Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ builds the best-designed school for our community.
• Design meetings are ongoing for fencing projects throughout the Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ. This includes gathering information, permitting and fees, phasing, evaluating material availability, and procurement.

Previous Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ Update

• Veterans Memorial High School (Phase I – Parking Addition): The general contractor has begun on-site mobilization. (This includes setup of temporary offices and amenities.) The contractor is waiting for the Authority Having Jurisdiction to issue the construction permits to begin work. The groundbreaking ceremony will be forthcoming for a future date with tentative completion of the project set for Fall of 2024.

• Wagner High School (Athletic Improvements): During the month of April, the Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ received the RFCSP bids from the general contractors for the athletic improvements. The staff recommendation was presented to the Board of Trustees and approved during the April 20^th Board Meeting. Staff is currently working on final contract negotiations with the general contractor. The groundbreaking ceremony will be forthcoming for a future date with tentative completion of the project set for Fall of 2024.

Proposition A - Safety and Security

• In December, the Board approved the purchase of a cameras & visitor Management System. Currently, these items are being installed in the appropriate areas across the Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ.
• In January, the Board approved the purchase of police-worn body cameras. Currently, these have been installed and implemented throughout the Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ and trainings have taken place. Also, the Board approved the purchase of rugged laptops for the Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ Police Department.

Proposition B - New School Facilities

• For Middle School #6, proposals were received from general contractors on March 7, 2023. The Board approved the rankings of general contractors at a Special Board Meeting held on March 27, 2023.
  • Groundbreaking is scheduled for May 3, 2023. Construction will begin mid-may, with competition scheduled to be completed in July 2025.
• For Elementary School #21, the architect has been selected. The school will be located near Retama Parkway and Lookout Road.
  • The design process will take approximately 12 months. The project will be bid on in early 2024 with construction scheduled for July 2025.
