Band, Choir and Orchestra courses will require students to participate in some afterschool practices and evening performances.

Beginning Orchestra
6th, 7th, and 8th grades      Full Year
This class is a student's wishing to learn a violin, viola, cello or bass string instrument. Students need no musical experience to participate in orchestra. Students will learn the fundamentals skills of playing their selected instrument, basic skills of reading music, music theory and participate in many concerts and contest during the year. After a year of beginning orchestra students will have the opportunity to audition for one of the upper level orchestras. There are a limited amount of instruments that can be issued from the school after the JISD instrument usage fee is paid. There are several reputable music stores in San Antonio that offer reasonable prices on the rental or purchase of a string instrument. Students will be required to participate in some after-school rehearsals and practice a minimum of 100 minutes per week at home. In addition, orchestra will require a certain degree of financial obligation.
Parents or guardians must be able to provide an instrument and necessary music supplies.

Intermediate Orchestra
6th, 7th, and 8th grades      Full Year
Prerequisite: Orchestra director's approval based on audition and previous experience.
This class is for students in grades six through eight with at least one year of orchestral music experience. Students will participate in many concerts and contest during the school year, and expand their instrumental skills to an advanced level. This class will require some after school rehearsals and sectionals. Students are required to practice 100 minutes per week at home. There are a limited amount of instruments that can be issued from the school after the JISD instrument usage fee is paid.
Parents or guardians must be able to provide an instrument and necessary music supplies.

Concert Orchestra
6th, 7th, and 8th grades      Full Year
Prerequisite: Orchestra Director's approval based on audition and previous experience.
This class is for students in grades six through eight with at least one year of orchestral music experience. Students will participate in many concerts, UIL events and contest during the school year, and expand their instrumental skills to an advanced level. After school rehearsals and sectionals will be mandatory for this orchestra. Students are required to practice 150 minutes per week at home. There are a limited amount of instruments that can be issued from the school after the JISD instrument usage fee is paid.
Parents or guardians must be able to provide an instrument and necessary music supplies.

Advanced Orchestra
6th, 7th, 8th grades      Full Year
Prerequisite: Orchestra Director's approval based on audition and previous experience.
This class is for students in grades six through eight with at least one year of orchestral music experience. Students will participate in many concerts, UIL events, 野花社区视频 solo/ensemble contest and other special activities during the school year, and expand their instrumental skills to an advanced level. After school rehearsals and sectionals will be mandatory for this orchestra. Students are required to practice 200 minutes per week at home and demonstrate a commitment and positive attitude to perform at the high standards of this ensemble. There are a limited amount of instruments that can be issued from the school after the JISD instrument usage fee is paid.
