Ms. Haugen teaches music at Woodlake Elementary School for grades Pre K through 5th grade.  Through the study of music, students can expect to increase focus, understanding, and positive social interactions to help them be successful in a school setting to learn and grow as an individual and as a team.  The important thing is to keep in mind that music brings people together through the power of communication via the arts, particularly music.  Music  helps us understand each other and ourselves by discovering new experiences in the arts education.  Ms. Haugen is an advocate for music and that fine arts can enhance our lives and the power to enrich people's everyday goals.  

In Music Specials, we learn to sing, play recorder, play ukulele, move to a beat, discover beat patterns called rhythms to percussion instruments, and hear music examples we have never heard before from around the world.  Children will hear music from all kinds of areas in life, from traditional to pop to world music to classical and musicals or music in film.  We even take a field trip to hear a symphony orchestra to broaden our horizons... the sky is the limit when it comes to music.  These events are not possible without support, and through the support of our principal and PTO, we can continue to learn and grow in a musical setting with lots of activities like concerts, performances, field trips, guest speakers, and vertical alignment visits.  A quality music program is a program that is supported and active.  Please message Ms. Haugen for more details on how you can do more for music at Woodlake Elementary.  

Ms. Haugen gained her enthusiasm for all kinds of music and music knowledge through her graduate studies at college studying with some of the great music educators in the state of Texas that is based on 100 years of research in music education.  It is exciting to see where music learning will take us next from here!
